Day 4-Watching the Balsa Boats and Shrimp Boat Races

The boat races were supposed to start at 10:00 AM. Another couple came to go with Wendy, Neil and us. We didn’t see any sign of the races, so we sat around and talked awhile and decided this was Ecuador, who knows when they will really start. Doris, one of the new people we met went off on her motorcycle to find out the scoop. She came back and said it may start about 2:00. Leo and I decided we would go to the Mall to get our phone set up and buy more groceries and supplies. We did get the phone set.

Then we went into the supermarket to buy some more things. We walked back with the groceries in a canvas bag perched on Leo’s head again. We ate lunch, rested, and then went to watch the races. The beaches were very full of families from Guayaquil. We  didn’t really know what was going on except that we saw shrimp boats going very fast, looking like they were going to crash into each other. Later the balsa sail boats came out. It was fun.

  1. Looks like a great day Joyce. Was just curious if you will be getting any English channels on your tv? Also will you be able to call to the U.S. on your cell phone?

    • Hi Diane,

We can call, but it is expensive. We put $50. on our phone. I will call you tomorrow (Tues). If you want to call us, you will have to put money in an international plan. We do get some English channels, but not the main channels. They are Spanish channels that show American Shows-not always the best shows. I am going to figure out how to get Hulu or Hulu plus on the computer so we can see better shows. Also, Netflix shows tv shows too. Just haven’t been still enough to investigate it yet. I think tomorrow we have nothing planed, but we will probable just go to the beach and veg.

      • Hi Joyce. You don’t need to call me so soon. I know its expensive. I enjoy reading and seeing the pics you send. My brother said he looked at the pics too and subscribed to your blog.

        • Thanks for getting Jimmy to subscribe. Tell him to write a comment so I can reply. Today was so nice. A day of rest. But its off to the mall again–with a rolling cart!!!!

  2. Glad to see you are enjoying Equador. I like seeing the things you do.

    Your favorite son,
    Leonardo Uzcategui

    • Thanks, Leonardo. We love you and miss you so much. It was great to talk to you tonight and sing Happy Birthday to Dylan. Love, Mom and Dad

    • The coffee is good at home. I hear most places use instant coffee. In the grocery store there is much more instant coffee than fresh. Go figure.
