Sunday, we finally had our party. I do not know what I would have done without Joanna. I’m still wondering how I would have done all of that alone. Also, friends, Jane and Michael offered to help, too. They came two hours before the party and helped with all those last-minute details and getting the food on the table. It just goes to show there are wonderful people here in Ecuador. We had about 25 expats and 25 Ecuadorians. We partied hardy. We ate, drank, danced and made new friends. There are such great people here around Crucita. We are looking forward to getting to know everyone better. We had both Ecuadorian music and music from my Dance Party CD’s I copied from the states. We got things started with a conga line. Just about everyone participated. With everyone on their feet, we did the twist, and YMCA, then Olayita showed everyone how to do the salsa. Everyone was up trying to learn it. I’m not sure how authentic we were, but everyone was having a ball trying. It was really a fun time and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. My Spanish is a bit lame, since I rely on my interpreter, husband Leo. I made him go around to all the Ecuadorians with me and I talked and he interpreted. Most of the Ecuadorians were the family of Mario, Leo’s nephew, the others are people we have met in the immediate area or have been introduced to by others. I needed shrimp for the party and Francisco and Maria, who live down the beach, met Leo at 7:00 and took him to Charopoto, a nearby town, to show him where to buy shrimp. Everyone is so helpful and kind. We partied from 2:00 to 7:00PM. We had to stop then because the people who needed to ride the bus, which are many, had to leave because the buses stop around 8:00 and we didn’t want to cut it too close to the deadline.
Today is Monday. Joanna left for Playas. We hated to see her go. It was so great to connect again with her. Leo and I cleaned up and pretty much kept a low profile today. To say we were tired was an understatement, but believe me it was worth it because we had such a great weekend. Below is a video of the party:
