Sorry that I have not posted in a while, but we have been sick. First Leo started, and then he so nicely decided to share it with me. I heard that just about everyone has had the “bug” “flu”, whatever you call it. It is like having the flu. Not nice. But it lasts quite a while. Just before I got sick, Leo decided he had to go to the Dr. because he was getting body pain. We rode the bus to the Solca, the cancer hospital in Portoviejo, because our relative is an oncologist there and he recommended a doctor for us. They take other patients there, too. We were met there by Gina, the oncologist’s wife and her mother, Mariana. Anyway they ordered a blood test for him. Then Gina and Mariana gave us a ride back home. Between that time and the Monday we went to have his blood tests read, I had gotten the bug and was over the main part of it. His tests came back Good.
While I was sick, but feeling a bit better, Gina came to visit us with her friend, Theresa, visiting from Spain and Gina’s cook, and the cook’s niece. Gina came to show them the beach and our house. I was still in bed feeling just so so. I had only eaten chicken soup. The dry one I buy here tastes like Lipton’s chicken soup. Gina came up to the bedroom and Leo interpreted for me. Next thing I know, Gina’s friend, Theresa, was making me chicken soup. Leo and Gina were off to the store to buy gatorade and more medicine. The chicken soup that Theresa made was so good. When they brought the soup up to me, the whole entourage came up. They went back downstairs and later came up again to say goodbye. She made enough soup that we both had it for dinner. We both did not feel sick after a while, but we were weak and just dragging around not doing much for about a week. We missed out on several get togethers in town, but what could you do.
I ended up going to the Solca to get blood tests, too. I was supposed to go back on Thurs. for my results, so Thurs. ended up being a big day because we had dental cleanings scheduled in the morning with 2 friends, Jane and Michael. Leo was our interpreter. We had gotten the dental recommendation from Nan Levine, who has a blog. She lives in nearby San Clemente. We were very pleased with the dentist. Her prices were reasonable. The cleaning was $25.00 and she did another procedure on a tooth for $25. and I opted for whitening for $90. The dentist did all the procedures-no dental hygienist. I am a baby when going to the dentist due to a childhood experience of getting a big filling done with no novacane. She put a numbing gel on my gums for the cleaning like I get in the states, so I was so happy. We were all pleased. Her name is Dr. Guillen. She is at the San Antonio clinic in Portoviejo. After our cleaning, we went with Jane to get an xray of an area in her mouth that was red. She had to the results from the Dr. later.
Then the four of us went to lunch. We asked the people in the xray place for a recommendation for a place nearby to eat. I did not like the restaurant that much, but everyone else was OK with it. Just before we left, Mariana came in for lunch. She lives nearby and was out shopping.
After lunch, Jane and Michael left and we went to the Solca to get the results of my blood tests. Our appointment was for 2:00. We got there about 1:30. The doctor walked by on his way back from lunch, so he said to come in then. Love the no waiting! My tests were good, too.
Then we went to the Mall to do our monthly shopping. We ran into several people in the Mall which was fun. We waited a bit for Olayita and Colon to pick us up. We piled our groceries in the back of their pick up and headed for Crucita. We went to Remini’s to eat dinner. Since I was still just a bit unsettled in my stomach, I didn’t eat much. It was nice to sit there and look at the beach. Even though, I live on the beach and see it everyday, I never seem to tire of it.
Well, since I am well again, I am going to try to catch up on my blog posting. Until next time…
